Started in 1989, the
National Institute of Modern Martial
Arts has always had karate as the
core curriculum. So much more than
punching and kicking, karate is a
way of bettering yourself physically
and mentally. You set your goals and
we help you reach them. Whether you
are a serious martial artist looking
to learn the Art or take on the
tournament circuit or just want to
get in shape our instructors have
the experience and knowledge to take
you as far as you are willing to
push yourself.
- Kata
- Kata, or forms, are specific
movements done in a sequence
simulating a fight. They have
always been an intigral and
important part of karatedo.
Kata is a way of practicing
techniques in different ways
against imaginary opponents to
build strength, flexibility,
endurance, and focus.
- Kumite
- Kumite, or sparring, is a
way to practice fighting in a
safe and controlled manner
while building endurance and
training yourself to get over
the freeze reflex.
- Kobudo
- Kobudo is the way of using
weapons. We have a variety of
weapons in our program
including Arnis (stick), Bo,
Sai, Tonfa, Kama, Nunchaku,
Eiku (oar), and Nunti.
